Melissa A. Schwartz is a partner in the Philadelphia office of Naulty, Scaricamazza & and McDevitt, LLC and practices with the firm's Workers' Compensation Department. Melissa, who joined the firm in 1997, concentrates her practice in the area of workers' compensation.
Melissa assists self-insured and insured clients in the defense of claims involving work-related injuries. She also handles claims for lost wages and medical treatment expenses against private industry and public employers and their workers' compensation insurers. Melissa has extensive experience handling issues involving: defenses, fraud, subrogation, and appeals.
Melissa is actively involved in the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association, where she previously served as Chair (2003), Chair-elect (2002) and Financial Secretary (2001). She has implemented various programs and activities to promote the YLD, and currently serves on the Board of Governors. She has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Bar Association and Conference of County Bar Leaders, receiving two awards for her service. Melissa was also recognized by the American Bar Association for outstanding activities and accomplishments in 2001 and 2002. She is a frequent lecturer on workers' compensation matters, and has authored several articles on behalf of the Philadelphia Bar Reporter concerning lawyers' lifestyle issues.
Melissa's charitable activities include her involvement with Congregation Or Ami as well as a number of pro bono activities organized through the Philadelphia Bar Association. During the years 2005-2007 and again in 2010, Melissa was awarded with "Rising Star Super Lawyer" commendations by Super Lawyers magazine.
Melissa earned her Bachelor of Arts from Franklin and Marshall College in 1992, and received her Juris Doctorate from Widener University School of Law in 1996, where she was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society. Melissa also served as law clerk for the Honorable Marc Weinberg, Department of Labor and Industry, from 1996 to 1997. Melissa is admitted to practice before the state courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey as well as the Supreme Court of the United States.
